Grass and heather.

I tried to capture the movement of the grass in the wind and the spectacular colours. Not sure if I succeeded as the light wasn't great - principally due to our appalling summer weather. Will have another go this weekend - I would like to capture this early in the morning and in the evening.

Ferns under a stream bank.

I caught these earlier this year under a bank - but just catching some morning sunlight. I like the way you can just see the ghosts of other leaves in the shade.

For M.

There you go M. These are the slightly 'tweaked' versions to pull out the detail that was otherwise hidden.

Lightsplash.....

To remind us that all we ever see of something is the light reflected (or not} from it.

Clouds over the Thames

Taken this May after a session on the river.
Whatever happened to our summer??? (Again!)

Clouds over Somerset

Taken this spring.

Deep green.

It took me a long time to work out how to capture the sensation that the valleys in the Quantocks inspire in the early summer. For a long time these two gnarled oaks had attracted my attention and then one day the light and shadow brought out the right effect.

By inference

The shadow cast by this stream side fern caught my eye - a different way of experiencing the surroundings.

Light, shade and water.......

Part of the scenery the shallow streams running through the valleys in the Quantocks are part of the foot wetting experience. The water is crystal clear and cool. I've frozen it here so that you can see what impresses the eye. The upper is a crop from the lower. I shall be having some fun with some more of these that are currently filling up my hard drive.

Some black and white atmospherics........

Light and shade picked out by the stye looking west towards Exmoor from the Quantocks.

A bright sunny day and a wind whipping through the pine trees above Holford. Very refreshing!

A view from the Quantocks towards the Brendon Hills and Exmoor. I have tried to capture the contrast of the scattered heavy showers being driven in on a very stiff westerly breeze with the splashes of warm sunlight.

This time of year.....

At this time of year the heather and the gorse is in flower and the grass that grows amongst them is turning a lovely yellow. It's hard to capture the effect this has - particularly as the gorse has a heady scent and, when the sun is out, the insect activity is very high. There is usually a slight breeze which you might see in the blurring of the grass seed heads. I found this characteristic spot beside the pathway and up against the fence in the picture - very hot and unexposed. You can see the two types of heather we have and the Blackdown Hills on the horizon to the south.
